The same thought came to me at the end of the Dubai Cares charity program. There was a press event and one of the sponsors (I mean benefactors) was asked about why they had given the donation.
He said there were a number of reasons, and listed them in importance. Number two was a desire to help people by easing the plight of the poor. But the number one reason, as far as the businessman admitted, was because Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was involved, so it was important to do something that he was watching.
To him it was more important to get the air time and drop the Sheikh's name over and over again than it was to give to the poor.
