forcing me to write

my red devil avatar hasnt been here on ql for a long time. travel, workloads, deadlines.. lot of things kept me away from writing down things here. i may not be even known to people who wernt on ql a couple of months.. but then suddenly, somehting in an indian newspaper made me keep away all my worries and put down my thought here

a couple of days back, i saw an indian newspaper with a photo of a group of people presenting a check to an old person. the news read "mr Y of ABC organisation presenting check to mr.X" the news attached said that mr. X was a poor expatriate, have sepent a couple of decades, a major part of his life in the middle east, but still havnt made enough fortune to look after his family. doesnt even have ticket to return home. so this ABC organisation came forward to help him and send him back to india. i have seen organisations and people presenting cash and checks to non-profitable organisations and orphans and their photos coming up in newspaper (which itself i thought as a cheap idea).. but this really sucks... u or your organisation help an individual who is badly in need of money and the next days newspaper, u keep a photo of that individual accepting the money with a detailed news of that individuals grief and sorrow.. dont we have to respect that poor man..? hasnt he got his own dignity ? shold we humiliate someone if we help them out...? Islam says "whatever monetary help you give to someone, give it even without your other hand knowing" means wen u help out someone with mopney, no one except, you, him and God should know it. and it is a shame that the abc organisation i mentioned above is an islamic organisation.

Hi Budd...its been a long time. Well it is very fortunate that u have been away for the last few months....QL has gone to dogs lately:)

The concept in Islam as per my understanding is that when giving to an individual it must be discreet while when giving to an organization it may be advertised not for publicity reasons but to insigate others in doing the same.

The art of being wise is to know what to overlook.

The same thought came to me at the end of the Dubai Cares charity program. There was a press event and one of the sponsors (I mean benefactors) was asked about why they had given the donation.

He said there were a number of reasons, and listed them in importance. Number two was a desire to help people by easing the plight of the poor. But the number one reason, as far as the businessman admitted, was because Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was involved, so it was important to do something that he was watching.

To him it was more important to get the air time and drop the Sheikh's name over and over again than it was to give to the poor.

thatz exactly I am saying.

Its hypocracy for calling themselves a religious body and at the same time sort of insulting the one who accepts alms from them.

It has to be discreat

its not just Islam that tells to be modest in giving to others..its most all religions. Christianity is the same way...never give, then expect accolades for giving..do it from the heart..and the heart never needs to be praised when doing what is right.

seems this organisation needs to read the basics again and understand.

And why only Islam.. Voluntary contributions should not be with advertisement.

I suppose this organisation is trying to advertise itself of their social helpful nature.

Welcome back mufy :)

I guess it's a sorta cultural habit that of publishing photos on newspapares :D They will do the same when one is coming back to his/her own country on vacation . The worst is that they entitled the thing as : Looking for a fugitive lol.

You're right mate, in Islam when you donate something it's much better to do it secretly. Making it public to show off ruins it all.

Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
