I am an English teacher - I have been here for two years and I have two young children.
The salary is not as much as the UK for teachers - I think assistants don't match up at all. However, bear in mind you have no tax - council, income, NI etc. So, my take home pay is equivalent but with less out-goings.
Work hours are longer, holidays are not so well spaced. Kids are generally better than UK.
You would need a second income I imagine. You must look for a job that includes accommodation, visas, flights, school fees etc.
Generally, our life is better but like I said, I am a teacher. Perhaps you could bite the bullet for a year and go do a PGCE - would open a lot more windows.

Hope this helps?
