I work on a 'three strikes and you're out' policy.
First time: I'll ask something very politely, explaining the inconvenience and how it affects me.
Second time: I'll say more assertively, I've mentioned this to you before, I really meant what I said, I am not your mother, I am not your wife and I'm certainly not your maid, so this is unacceptable and you must change your ways, or else...
Third time: Good bye.
But then this is my apartment, and I don't need anyone living with me to pay for it, I just occasionally take in room mates who are friends of friends who need a place to stay.
I have, before now, literally dumped someone's possessions on the landing outside my front door. Some people are dumb. If they tend not to show enough respect to other people by being considerate and cleaning up after themselves, they tend not to be able to respect other people's wishes and to vacate the premises either. If asking them to clear up after themselves doesn't sink in, asking them to leave probably won't either. People like that are in a little bubble where they don't listen or absorb information.
Sometimes you have to resort to taking action, because they genuinely can't understand what the problem is, they're blinkered.
Oh, I had this problem a while ago.
