I think as we're suffering because of the ascending order of posts and we need to scroll down the whole page and then click "last" link to go to last page, there is a tip to get rid of this exercise.
1. for the first time when you come to the forum, scroll down and instead of "clicking" the "last" link, "right-click" on the "last" link and select "Open in New Window", you'll get a separate window with forums last page.
2. Instead of check each time whether there is a post on the forum or not, just refresh the forum window by pressing "F5". This will refresh the page with new posts and take you to the message you're reading before.
