Just to compare apartments around the world with Doha
Just to compare apartments of Doha with the UK.
For example, there is someone listing a
three bedroom flat with two bathrooms, kitchen, parking etc...
for QR7000 (that's 940GBP)
In a tiny town in the UK (Colchester), (1 hour by train from London) it costs.
- GBP550 for a two bedroom apartment with 1 bathroom, kitchen, and lounge (in a really bad area)
- GBP 1200 for a four bedroom apartment made out of cardboard (2 bathrooms and one lounge)
The average is GBP750 for a 2 bedroom apartment.
My friend in London pays 1100 for a tiny 2 bedroom apartment.
=====
Prices are starting to stablize now thanks to the Government in Qatar, but until things are good again, I suggest living outside of Doha if you don't mind or are able to. It doesn't take so long to commute anyway.
====
How about others? Can you mention different areas or countries?
(Be sure to mention what the area is like i.e. upper class, average area etc..)
But just to put things into perspective, I think many people complain about how expensive Doha is because they were used to the very cheap prices. Prices won't increase so much anymore, I'll guarantee the government will not allow that, HOWEVER, if you see, Doha prices are still much cheaper than other capital cities and you don't need to worry about being taxed left and right :P
lol I'll take apt as a compliment :P
Just been researching prices of apartments in Shanghai (border) (because I'm planning on getting a place for vacation). It's like 400GBP for a 3 bedroom apartment! Saw some pictures and it was great! Hardwood floor, large kitchen etc... 400 is around 3600QR

amnesia ... very apt.
You compare them based on the fact that they are both Capitals.
And this thread isn't about comparing capitals, it's just a simple thread to compare different regions around the world.
You said "Yes I pay tax on my salary in the UK but ... I get healthcare, accessible law enforcement, education facilities"
... alright from the top now. "Qatar has hardly any taxes, depending on your job you can get the following: Accommodation allowance, transport allowance, interest free loans, furniture allowance, medical, dental, utilities, and so on"
I studied in Essex and paid 84 pounds a week for university accommodation in a crap tiny room. Why are you talking about university accommodations anyway? Uni's in Qatar also provide much more compared to what essex, anglia, and norwich provide (I mention those three because those are the only three I have first hand experience with).
You also mention "I have freedoms in London". I didn't realize people were tied up and gagged in Qatar. Qatar is a quite open and freely developing country.
You say you can live for FAR less. I've lived in the UK (still am) for the past 5 years. I can tell you that it's COMPLETELY the opposite.
Anyway, many thanks to another individual who turns one thread into a completly different subject.

I rent a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath house in west london for 900 a month.
I just dont get it though, how can you logically compare the price of accomodation in London to Doha???
In London I can earn C30K sterling a year (210k QR). In Doha I can earn (96K maximum). My 2 bed appartment costs me more in Doha, my travel expenses are higher and my entertainment bill - well lets not even go there.
Yes I pay tax on my salary in the UK but ... I get healthcare, accessible law enforcement, education facilities, ... employment rights and human rights tend to be quite useful too.
And in London I have access to a world class city, with ALL the amenities and freedoms of the west. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
Oh and my next door neighbour pays 80 quid a week for his Uni digs up in the Midlands and Thames Valley University in Ealing (West London, about 5 miles from Hyde Park) costs 400 pounds a month. I think most of the information you have posted on your 'I Love Qatar' site is so innacurate and misleading its completely unfair on people who do not know better and use it to make informed decisions.
"I" can live for less and earn more in the UK than I can in Doha .. FAR less. Even taking taxation into consideration.
the funny thing is, here in the UK, even University accommodation costs 500 pounds a month.
I'm amazed at how it seems almost every country in the world is cheaper than the UK.

new building 2bed/2bath/2balconies facing the sea....central AC free water/electricity/gym etc...120KD, that's what I used to pay an year ago before I left that place. 120 kd would be around 1800QR.
i just moved to Doha from Riyadh...my husband and I used to pay 3000 riyals per month for a 2 bedroom apartment now we pay 8500 riyals for also a 2 bedroom apartment...both r new buildings, we r the first residents of the apartment and both are good locations...its depressing we have to spend so much money on rent! we should consider ownin a studio instead :P
Well folks, I have an amazing view of the ocean..two bedrooms, two baths and a den. The entire flat is 1700 square feet with five appliances, hardwood floors, 11 foot ceilings, beauitful Victorian style finishes, a huge deck and a small garden..oh yes it also has AC although except for the months of July and August you would never use it. The best feature is the heated garage because our winters are very cold and the building is totally sound proofed. I get all of this for $1,000 Canadian dollars a month with all utlities except cable included...that less than 500 GBP. After reading everything about the rents in Doha I think I will stay where I am. Cheers to all!
My apartment is Rio de Janeiro at copacanaba beach has 2 bedrooms 2 bath rooms , living room and small kitchen. It is not sea front but in a nice area ... for QR 2200.
Guys, I'm so sick and tired of this! I try to give you guys another point of view and all you do is just s**t all over it.
I can see why so many people abandon these forums so quickly.
I swear on my dead grandmother that I saw it on the classifieds here.
@Qatarisun, I do NOT know the condition of the apartment, because sadly I do NOT run around looking at apartments, just in case someone wants me to PROVE myself.
I'm appauled at the lack of respect members of these forums show. You are all free to have doubts, but dont ever resort to sarcastic rudeness.
The problem is, you are all assuming that I simply just look at sites, my fathers owns villas and apartment buildings in various countries so I've been able to watch him work. I've always seen him to be just and fair.
on my personal website, I'll be updating a small section of classifieds related to accomodation once i've completed all of the sections.
Hope that it will be able to benefit those that need it.
You are slowly turning one Qatari who wants to help expats out into someone who really doesnt give a crap anymore.
I'm not trying to be cruel or mean, but people dont see the fact that I'm trying to help and become so negative or defensive that I simply dont understand it anymore...
Anyway, people know what the prices are now, and sadly people can complain all they want. I've done my best to write a letter as a Qatari on behalf of expats in order to discuss housing inflation. I think that that is as far as I will go for a while until I finish my work. It seems my cause is not worth it at the moment. Please excuse my hot temper.
oh and here is the classified.

7000 QR for a 3 bedrooms flat hhahahahahhahahah LOL...who is saying that joke, I am willing to take it right now if it was true
"there is someone listing a
three bedroom flat with two bathrooms, kitchen, parking etc...
for QR7000 (that's 940GBP)..."
PLEASE, for God sake,
1. give me this phone number for 3-bedroom aptm. in Doha for QR 7000!!!!
2. Did you see this particular accommodation? are you sure that this is acceptable for living in any possible way??? Are you sure that it’s not a shed for cows?
Amnezia, darling, since you are doing such a detailed research in this field, please do me a favor, do REAL research, try to open Gulf-Times paper, or any other resources, and please call these numbers for offered accommodation and GO and SEE what do they offer! Please, do not get me wrong. I haven’t been sarcastic. I am absolutely serious. You do a great job in this research. Now take your attention away from the newspapers and dead statistics, and please go and see the real life.
And again, I am not kidding, if you know where I can find 3-br for 7000, please let me know. And if this place is not a dirty henhouse, I will take it and give you commission also. Thanks....
Here is my input in addition to the previous posts: in Toronto a beautiful spacious 1-br apt running from QR 2600 to QR 3100 in a very good area. And less then QR 2500 in cheaper areas. And for QR 7000 you will find a pretty cozy detached house (what they call here "stand alone villa'). Can you help me to find anything like this in Doha, please?
Anybody else?
(remember to please be truthfull and realistic)
Since I have to be so specific to satisfy some members who prefer to take things out of context.
I am not interpreting or comparing countries from a political point of view. I simply wish to see the price of different apartments around the world so that I may interpret the information as I see fit for myself. Any comparisons that you may make with this information is entirely up to you.
and just to go into a bit more depth to aid satisfaction.

A beautiful penthouse one bedroom apartment in the heart of Manchester-UK for a bargain of about GBP 750 …
My two bedroom apartment in a very nice suburb of Houston (Sugarland) cost me around $740 US Dollars. Excellent floorplan and fancy interiors w/fullsize 5 appliances....has anyone noticed that apartments in Doha have virtually no storage space, and dishwasher is an unknown amenity?
Forgot to mention that my apartment was inside a compound so we had a huge park, two swimming pools, a club, a gym etc....oh what a luxury it is to be in a compound in Doha...only if we knew we could have been more thankful!!!!!:-)
It makes me a little teary eyed when I compare it to the 2 bedroom apartment here probably available in the market for 10000 QR, gives me an amazing view of dusty school buses in a parking lot.
Rent in Pacific Northwest USA
My two bed/2bath was $1200 US Dollars a month. It was in a very high class area- downtown of a large city. It has gardens, outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. It was on the 13th floor of a 14 story building- and it had the most amazing view of across a river, over the whole city covered in trees and the crowning glory was the 13,000 ft. snow capped mountain framed by my living room floor to ceiling windows.
Not a bad price at all!!!
A standard two bedroom flat in a 3/4 storey apartment would cost around 1000 Saudi Riyals per month. Be it Dammam, Khobar, Jeddah. I've worked before in Saudi. I think still the rents haven't gone much up there and heard that it is the same in Bahrain also. Here my landlord is forcing 10% increase every year while rules say every second year. Can't help but agree. Difficult to move one house to another. The worst thing is that most Qatari companies don't give salary increments annually or even bi-annually.
