Understanding Camera Metering modes

It is important to set your camera metering mode to suit the environment you're shooting so that you could get a proper meter reading (the settings you need to use). There are usually four ways a camera obtains meter readings.
Spot metering,
Center-weighted average metering,
Partial metering and
Matrix/Evaluative metering
It is a bit harder to get a proper understanding of how this works because is requires quite a lot of experience.
