An insanely long post about our dhow trip...

Greeker
By Greeker

Forgive me father, for I am about to sin, coz this is going to be an awfully long post, coz some times there is no point in holding back, coz its not all the time you meet so wonderful people, coz its not everyday that you find that there is life in Qatar after all.

The Dhow trip rocked, and it was while standing at the top of the dhow that a few of us had the bright idea of imitating captain Jack Sparrow to run from one side to the other to overturn it so that we could get out of the dream world. Spoilsport, it was not yet sunrise and since the green final rays of the sun was nowhere to be seen, we scrapped the plan.

Three cheers…forget it, four and more cheers to Xena for having enough patience to stitch the while trip together. You are one hell of an organiser, has anybody told you that, lady? I think the applause at the end was everybody’s way of saying so. You deserved it.

Azilana, perpetual cheerleader. Showed enough grace to be in the trip despite being on the verge of a flu, just to keep her word. I like that about you, Azzy baby. And yeah, you should have pushed everyone to the dance floor, but ah, the next time…

Mr Paul, filled the void left by JoeCanuck. Threatened to jump off the boat twice, but sportive all through out. Glad to have had you there, buddy.

Jauntie, my favourite ‘Madame M’. You say you don’t look like Judy Dench? I beg to differ, ma’am. You look like a younger her, and thus I call you, Dench Jr. You may rise, Lady J.

Novita, ever-smiling. Just didn’t get lucky enough at dumb charades…or did she? Weak memory, sorry.

Shavonne Clements, who works in ‘some’ construction company, hehe. You were an absolute gem, one of the very few who stood at the top of the dhow. The people downstairs just didn’t know what they missed…

King Edshel, a lot of what I thought he would be like. A 21st century Budha with a dress sense worth killing for. Soft spoken, fit to be king, only had he not cut himself with that samurai sword…

Gypsy, never got to tell her that she looks damn familiar…cliched line, maybe, and chicken. Kinda different from what I thought she would be. Has the ability to actually smile, looks cutely similar to her ‘cat in the kimono’ icon.

Oryx, started the Shakira dance routine, until the song died on her. A movie name genius. Was glad that you could get into the trip. Was worth having you there, i say.

SL, I agree with Azzy and the others. He really is different in real life. I liked him and his disposition. He made his chat partners feel attended to.

SL(wife), as good as a couple gets.

Tsardos, Every bit the movie star, soft hearted towards the green can. Was nice enough to offer one to everyone in the dhow. If I drank, I would have loved to join you. Thanks for the offer anyway.

Ksarat16, easy to talk to, has seen the world. Never bitchy about life and takes life by its horns. I liked your attitude about the movies, buddy.

Lyf, loves and lives Lyf to the fullest. Ever-smiling, never a dull moment with him around. In his own special way, made the dhow trip special.

Cyman, (who I first thought was Simon) I rechristen him Sean Connery, what a resemblance, dammit. And I forgive you for jumping into talking in Greek with Super-xpat. I know how tough it is not to talk ones own language for a long time. An absolute gem.

Hussamf, seriously macho man, both with the talk as well as the build. Likeable, one-liners galore, added a lot of fun to the trip.

SuperXpat, the REAL Greek. Shy. I identify with you. Soft spoken, good listener, has his own opinions about everything. I liked the way you listened to people, waited for them to finish, and then came into the conversation with valid, well thought out points to talk about. One of these days, I need to develop the habit too.

Manubtl, the last member to confirm, at 6.30pm. Was a pleasure having you aboard. Maybe, the next time, we will have even more fun.

M_sunlight, didn’t talk much at all. But I am sure that it will be different the next time around.

There were also a few guests. Each one, the best we could have ever found. Thank you all, for being there, for making the trip memorable, for making everybody feel like meeting up together again, for cementing the friendship, and for making QL such a name so as to be proud to be associated with it.

Cyman - I am sorry - you are charming and thanks ever so much for asking but no.

There are just too many weirdos in this town. I just dont want the hassle that goes with that.

Also it is illegal to belly dance in Doha in front of members of the opposite gender.

I went to portugual and in 8 days did not see one boy remotely like Christiano Ronaldo... only bad thing about the country :)

Sl, this is not a dating site buddy, so if you want to make arrangements for your Danish friend do it thru PM lol

Really sorry that finally I could not make it to the Ramada. I promise I will make up next time. First round on me!

Lot of good moments:

Gypsy's play dead moment (dead poet's society). "I'm really not a fan of Beep-Beep"

SL's- A-Dollar Dollar, A$$

Tsardoz/Majh- Curiosity kills the cat - moment

Azzi- that Sprite made me feel better

Xena- another get together! not next week, but next month, puh-lease!

Jauntie's- deep throat

Btw, thank you for entertaining my colleague.

By Greeker• 13 Jun 2007 10:51

Damn, i left out Majh, the lady in light blue.

I am sorry, how could i forget the one who always had the brightest smile as an extension of her face? I never got to talk to you, but from the way the people around you were talking to you, i got the impression that you were well liked. The next time, i promise, i will write from REALLY talking to you, rather than write after seeing other people talk to you, hehe.

Once again, apologies for having left you out in the previous post.

So.. I finally met most of the unwanted persona in QL. :D

HRH Jauntie- a hottie! She's not a Judie Dench but a Kate Hudson

Greeker- that scary thing is just a bluff. A big bro to everyone

Gypsy- Hey woman! A heckler on line, just on line.

Oryx- I just knew she’s Oryx at the last 10mins of the trip.

Tsardoz- thanks for the Carlsberg buddy.

Manubtl- gotcha!

KSarat- the movie buff of the night.

Xena- ek is honger.;-) Congrats! job well done.

SL- Guys, don’t be afraid of him.

Mr Paul – D’oh! Ehehe.. still camera shy

Novita- click here, click there.

Was not able to interact with Lyf, Superxpat, Hussamf, and one guy from Denmark (I overheard).

As for CYman, Majh, Azzy, King Edsel and Daylight- im soo tired of seeing you again and again Lol!

PM me your email addy for some pix from my camera.

Some people asked me about my new buisiness venture about Toilet Cleaning Instructions last night during the Dhow Trip. Here I repeat this again for your information and necessary action.

Toilet Cleaning Instructions

1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids. You may need to stand on the lid.

4. The cat will self-agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet; the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "power-wash and rinse".

6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can and quickly lift both lids.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom and run outside where he will dry himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

I just WISH I had spoken to everyone. I don't know where the time went but then it does fly when enjoying yourself, doesn't it?

The atmosphere on board was so friendly and welcoming it was as though we had all met a million times before!

What more can I say ... the women were beautiful and the men made me wish I was, um, 20? years younger! ok ok I hear you lol

A shame I couldn't join those of you who went on to The Ramada - I could've murdered a large V&T ;o)

By the way, Greeker, I was just surfing the net for a picture of Judi D to put on my profile (you little horror!). I was a but surprised to see that she actually looks very like my sister!!! Maybe you are on to something.

Fantastic orgniser. I have seen SA ladies in action b4 doing everything from organise a wedding to buidling a brick wall.

They are the best organises on this earth. Swift and efficient without procastinating. It is hard to keep up.

One of the great things about Doha is being able to meet such an interesting variety of people which enrichen your life.

I really enjoyed the breathe of fresh air both mentally and physically amongst such delightful company. I hope we get together again soon. Really good folk. Next time I would like to see DaRude, e46m3 and richard.

Oh and bring back Sputnik so we can play pirates and make him walk the plank and haul him under the keel.

...so much fun. My friend, Rami and I had a great time. It was great meeting some of the QL members in person. Have to apologise that I did not have the chance to mingle with everyone tho!

And yep, million thanks to Xena, our spunky organiser! All hail the warrior princess!

Nice to meet everyone again ... and sorry i did not get the chance to talk to everybody.

I got to meet a famous 'gypsy' last night ... :-) Funny what impression you got from people in the forum.

Xena ... thankyou very much for arranging the dhow trip for us. I really enjoyed it :-) And most of all ... thank you for giving me a lift.

I didn't mind at all that there was no Martini on the dhow (didn't bother to bring my own booze anyway). I had lots of fun.

But anyhow, I should be going to bed, I have to wake up at 5:30!

Goddnight to all, hopefully see you in our next get-together.

I don't know from where to start brother or what to say. You did not let anything here for me to say. You said everything that can be said, would not be able to do any better. Nothing to be said [for the time being] from my side now. Tomorrow is another day where I'm sure that everyone would be posting their experiences with the trip.

I would like to thank Xena for everything, she was closing her hand as much as she can on this handful sand. She did not let go, but by the end of the trip when she knows that there is no need to do that anymore. I'm referring here to managing and organizing everything, thank you for being their for us. Thank you for making this a success and keep going and we would be looking forward for more of those trips. Just say it and we would be there to help and support.

Thank you Greeker for having your time in writing this nice report. Looks like you did not stop working even during the trip :), thank you for being there with me my friend.

To all the nice people that I met today, the pleasure was mine to see all of you. The trip was not about paying, drinking or eating. It was about the experience that we lived together, something that we would be talking about later. Some would be talking about it to their children, some to their grand[sons+daughters]. Just keep the picture of what happened today in your heart so you don't need to look for the photos, or open your computer pressing your 'F3' button and trying to find them.

One last thing, .. from between all the people who were there .. I wanted to talk to someone so badly ... but could not help it.

Goodnight to All of you and hope to see you again, with the almighty discretion.

Have A Nice Day

I wanted to check it at the beginning of the trip. But then all the people began to come overboard at the same time and my weak memory kicked in. I am sorry that it never occured to me again.

Hey Greekr, I'm interested to know what sorts of safety measures were available on board, if you noticed.

Sean Connery's in Doha, identifies himself as a Cypriot and speaks perfect Greek!

Sean Connery is retired and has disappeared, gone off somewhere. Makes sense.

The dhow trip was fantastic, big thanks to Xena for her effort.

Azilana's right, you should have joined us in Ramada.

I'm looking forward to the group's next get-together!
