Why Mosque / Masjid's door always locked in non prayer's time?

in my country ...sometime if i had stress, i will go to masjid ( even not in prayer time ); to pray and read quran and tell my problem to God. Masjid / Mosque is open 24 hours.

But i realize in Qatar, most of masjid ( not all .. but most of it ) are closed and locked unless it is on prayer time.

even when i finish zohor ( for example ) i want to spend my time to pray and read quran, the mutawwa asked me to go because they want to lock the door.

What is the reason of it ? is it official policy ?
Please let me know if you know the answer.
Thank you

Whatever the reason, it is a shame! The house of God should be open all the time and for everyone.

Hello I can answer your question. From what I understand, the Imam have been instructed by Awqaf to lock the doors of the Masjid after the prayers are over. The reasons are below:-

1. The Masjid is a prayer for worship and the sole purpose of the Masjid is for prayers only. What has happened in the past was that most of the Truck Drivers, Laborer (Muslims & Non Muslims) have the Masjid as a place of rest, to sleep, to talk, to have lunch and kill time relaxing in the cool and quite environment of Masjid, oftening dirtying the place with dirt.

2. Also the wash room of the toilets for the faithful to perform wadhu is being used for Showers, laundry by these workers and so on. Even now in the souq area you will many non muslims using these toilets to answer the call of nature, but they don't ensure cleanliness.

I know its hard for these poor people as there are absolutely NO public Toilets in Doha City. But the Masjid is not to be used for this purpose !!

So i guess this the real reason. The Masjid was also used by many homeless people as well who are either absconding from their sponsors for any other reason as well.

That's all from me.

Good Luck and Have a Nice Weekend !

hi..

It was started from Jan 08 or 09...

the mosques will be closed .5 hour after one prayer time and will open only half an hour before the next prayer..

i think the reason is to prevent people from sleeping in the mosques and using its washrooms at other times..

because fOR the security of the mosque........if they keeep the dooors unlocked nearby people would come and they would steal something or break thingsor make some irrepairable losses of the mosque or the mosque keeper moreover non-muslims also enter the mosque which is HARAM!!!!!
