Should I be afraid because I am an outsider?

Now this experience that I had today, has cropped a lot of questions in my mind. I wanted to have other opinions, & thats why m here at QL.

I went to the Al-Wakra beach today in the morning to njoy the sunrise, much against the wish of my collegues who simply refused to accompany me because of fear of being in a foreign land.
The morning breeze along with the sound of water splashing every now and then to the seashore made it one of the most memorable experience of my life.
What made it adventurous was the entry of the QATARI COP, who ofcourse was surprised to see me as the only human soul wandering at the beach at 6.15 am. Now this gentleman asked me what I was doin there, which organization I work for, he even saw the pics i had clicked, but finally left.Ofcourse, he was performing his duties as an alert cop and I respect him for that. But now this has raised questions within me whther I shud go there again or not. Today, it was ok, tomorrow can it turn into smthing ugly.
I mean, I m new to doha, so not aware of this.
SHOULD I BE AFRAID, OR I CAN ATLEAST LISTEN TO MY HEART AND DO SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS A MORNING WALK ON BEACH????

I too think its a normal thing to happen...the cops do their duty and as an individual as far as m not indulged in sm wrong thing...Qatar is as safe as any other place. But are there any other enthusiasts around wakra beach here at QL who come for a beach jog/walk on weekdays or weekends???

I went to this restaurant in D.C. called Clyde's and it advertised on there "Clyde's got Crabs"... do we call that good or bad advertising? or just being plain honest? lol!!!

Well..i agree with some & disagree too. May be this questioning was harmless, \i shud not be afraid. But then you never kno when u will come across some other cop who may not be as frndly as the other. I mean no one one to be detained or questioned/harrassed for a simple walk on the beach.

After this whole episode, i dont think anyone would agree to join me for a morning walk at the beach.

As far as other fishy (or shud I say "crabby")activities like sex on beach, 'eve' teasing etc etc...was out of question, because for such things the minimum requirement is an "eve". I am new to doha, so girlfrnd is also out of question. but the ideas that came across are really interesting and hv given me a reaosn to explore options other than a morning walk or a the sunrise view :-)

You have no reason to be afraid (If you're not doing anything illegal) :P

you'd be afraid of unless you've done a crime. And you're right, that cop was just doing his job. It happened to some of the people here especially if you're in a such a place where most public don't normally go. I had a Qatari friend who warned us before that cops or CIDs normally patrol routinely in beach areas especially outside Doha proper. Well, there's nothing to be afraid of. Hope you enjoy the morning sun there!

Let me know when will I really witness s*x in the car. lol. Sounds more like holywood movie. Why dont you guys take some snaps. You understand what I mean. So we can have some proof of evidence. lol

Peace.

Maybe they're enjoying a nice serve of 'Candida'?

Or playing a friendly game of 'clap'?

In this cold weather I hope they are wearing a von 'Dutch cap'.

Pardon me for interjecting, but they could be catching "crabs" by their actions in the cars... If you see what i mean..

Go to the beach between the Ritz and the Dip Club late at night and just you try to get within 5 metres of any of the parked cars.

I personally know a number of Qatari guys who *regularly* take people to the beaches in Al Wakrah, outside Al Khor, Simaisma, Sealine, etc etc, purely to have sex in the back of their car. That's what the window tinting is for.

If you were a young guy and you couldn't take your girlfriend/boyfriend to your house or a hotel for a bit of fun, where else do you think you're going to go????

I challenge you to go to the beach, late at night, and find enough people catching crabs to fill all the cars that are parked on the beachfront.

Remember the story about the Indonesian house maid who was raped, killed, and her body buried... that was in Al Wakrah.

People do all sort of strange things on Al Wakrah beach. Mostly people having sex in cars, but some other sh1t goes down on that beach too.

There are many nice places you could go to enjoy sunrise, I just don't think that Al Wakrah really ought to be one of them. Anyone (Qatari, Arab or whatever) would have been questione by the police in the same situation.

If you go to any public place and still some public is around, the police personal will not ask you but if you are alone he surely will ask you. This is one way to make sure every thing is ok with you and to make sure nothing is fishy going on. Some times some one may be having some medical issue and can not leave with out help. Its good and not good some times.

If me I will not prefer to go alone in early morning. I dont like someone come to me and look at me with suspition.

Try to avoid if possible or otherwise go as group.

Peace.

Well that is a little unusual - but it looks like from what u said that u were alone (and therefore he can't accuse u of doing anything wrong). Just becuase u're in a foreign land (and most of Qatar's population is in the same position as u - i.e. living in a foreign land) doesn't mean u should be scared to death of any unwanted attention (just for u're info I get picked on sometimes when I go back home through heathrow, becuase I have a non-british sounding name). I wouldn't think too much on it, if I were u, it was probably just a one off..

Pnjbimunda ...I think he must have thought you were clicking girl's photos...(thats why he inspected the photos).

...they are more wary of eve teasers than anything...

I have been there at 5am during the summer and there have been a lot of people a lot of single guys around either sleeping on the grass, jogging, or catching fish....but never had any problem.

Be AFRAID! Be Very AFRAID...

Listen to your heart and don't venture out alone especially so early in the morning. Today, you were lucky. Tomorrow , you may not be so fortunate.
