selfish vs selfless

hello
one philosopher was asked what really is selfishness.
his reply was
you see rain which showers for all of us it is selfless!!!
when you hold an umberella during that rain then you are selfish!!

You can write a will and give away all your money to needy on your death bed. That way you just don't have the time enough to feel good.

.... may be none. Unless you are rain and showering yourself.

I think it's a deed which u do discreetly without anyone knowing and without expecting anything in return. But then again u might've done it to feel good about urself...which is selfish...Ahhhh!

So what would be that one selfless deed.

are one endless loop. Sometimes even doing good things can be considered selfishness, why? Because these people do these good deeds for these people, not for doing good things. But to feel better about themselves and in that they are satisfying something in their mind, so they don it for their own sake which considered in the end ... Selfishness.

is only a saliva, would not be better to leave it hungry for sometime to produce more of this and get a bigger pearl? Better than sticking some sand into this poor creature *** to produce those ...

at least they are pretty scabs...sorry just couldn't think of any other way to describe the process...

... or for that matter scab. Oh !! I own some of these scab/saliva pieces and paid a fortune for it.

Owen, 'saliva'. Yuk. Please don't put it this way. I love pearls. I don't wan't to think how expensive saliva can be.

By Scarlett• 29 Oct 2007 22:03
Scarlett

when you get a cut and it forms a scab...um ok that sounds even worse...lol

hiya king!! yep...and the cultured pearls are so round because they use artificial irritants that are completely round to begin with..so that the layers form in a uniform pattern.

By King Edshel• 29 Oct 2007 22:00

It will get irritated because of the sand,, trying to isolate it from the creature itself by surrounding it with that substance that will form the pearl later. Will take years of course, won't happen in two or three days :)

hmmmm..so, basically pearls are made out of sand grains and "saliva (?)" of this animal?

Corne, I think it all depends on what is being showered. He refers it as rain but let's give a meaning to this 'shower'.

By Scarlett• 29 Oct 2007 21:49

the grain of sand get into they oyster and the irritation it causes the animal creates the pearl...its the protection from the sand that forms the outside coating..kinda neat, isn't it?

ohh well then maria..that makes more sense...;) and editing can be such a pain at times..

By owen• 29 Oct 2007 21:47

really, its grain of sands?..hmmm, interesting..i could really learn from QL..:P

No comment. (I think I need a coffee).

By Scarlett• 29 Oct 2007 21:37

thought it was a grain of sand in the oyster that changes into a pearl..not water...

So how is me not wanting to get wet and sick, considered being selfish ? :S

How will you qualify the raindrop which enters the oyster and changes into a pearl ? Selfish or selfless.?

By care4u• 29 Oct 2007 00:29

Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.
