Metal piece covering face... what is it?
I've seen a couple of women during the past days with some sort of metal thingy covering their face... Just curious, what is it? Do they wear it instead of a veil, or is it something special? Can't really walk up to them and ask, so hoping someone can explain it to me :)
Edit: That's Batoola Metallic Bedouine Burqa Niqab

Hahahahahahahahaha...They look really cute....
thanks for your kind words about Qataris...when you get to know us you will find we are very friendly and hospitable!
the idea i respection
who lives in Qatar he can feel the sence of hospitality of Arabic people. and he can feel how open minds are them.
their visitor is at their first interests.
but the buisness life here and the huge number of expatriats make the impression different. but whenever some one deals with Qatari people he will feel the warm (AHLA) from Qataris' mouths.
I am from Syrian Arab Republic and we have similar maskes also.
I think fist of all we should respect the traditional wear of each nationality and religion and we should be open mind to let the askers understand why this wear is made for .
in the Islamic world the woman is being respected highly , for this reason she has to cover her face . and to whom intersting he can read a new language from the eyes apear throug the musk.
can you read it???
Al-Battullah is easily made. People say it came from Iran.
Thanks, another mystery solved :)
Is just a tribal adornment. Hopefully is not a giant lollipop, molded to a face mask. J/K

It is also the traditional custom in UAE / Oman. there is tiny differce between each country to identify the nationality for each. (Like for men ALL GCC men wearing the white THOB but there is a differnce for each country).
Those ladies get the most respect from all locals at each country, they considered the true roots and they deal with them like grandmothers.
Hi dweller, I believe it is a natural dye. My Gran wore them when I was little and we used to love dressing up with them and getting the dye on our faces. She sometimes used to threaten us if we 'borrowed' them to play with she would make us wear it for a week. That usually stopped us in our tracks.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but is not the "metalic" effect caused by using indelible ink?
I seem to remember my wife trying one on at a camel racing camp (before the stables were built at Shahaniya) and getting the ink on her face.
This veil is called a 'batoola'. Typically this is worn by older women. You don't see many younger women wearing them nowadays. Perhaps you would in the desert with traditional bedouin people. Perfectly normal, nice woman. They are not used to dealing with non-mahram men (ie men who they are not related to) as this is how they were brought up. If you speak the language of this country ie Arabic and show them the high level of respect that we give to our elders in Qatar then I'm sure they will be happy to converse. Remember not everyone speaks English and we love it if you make the effort to speak our language whilst you are living in our country.
They are wearing the traditional veil.
They are very kind and I feel like those are the remaining good things among the civilization that moves rapidly here.
Please, never make fun of others just because you don't know or don't like.
It's a traditional mask and it's made of decorative gold, If you go further out in the village you'll see more of this scene.
Just keep dancing, it will do you good!!!
I have seen some in Oman as well, it is not actual metallic thing(y) it is like a soft cardboard appears to be like metallic, which is a custom of some areas but nothing to do with the religion. I did not dare to ask the lady who was wearing this but I ask another lady who was not wearing this and she explained me, hope what she said was right.....else she was wrong and hence I'm wrong :)
