Here in Qatar we have a dress code for both man and woman, and few days ago I heard that western people also have a dress code and I was surprised.
Can any western please explain to me what is this dress code looks like?
It will be nice to share as many of us here in Qatar do not know this information.
Please consider it as a culture information exchange.

We have no dress code in Europe, only normal work clothes, If you are a lawyer you are expected to wear suits at all time

It's too cold in the West to go into your office in your underwear....

SA, I have never been tempted to go to an office in underwear. I haven't even been thinking of going in the streets in underwear. And because of that, there is no "dress code" in the West! And if somebody does it, he will not be very happy in doing so. There will be a lot of laughter when he passes.

Straight Arrow you are talking about too much clothing, Coming to office naked though does help a business

I "think" he meant to ask about whats considered "decent /modest" attire in the western world

and to that i would answer....it depends on the setting, time and place.

Son, You can't handle an honest answer.

You don't want an honest answer because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me to dress as I do. We use words like honor, dress code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a person who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom of dressing that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I wear it.

First of all, there are many different countries in Europe.

For example...if you go to a Sicilian or Greek village that is not frequented by tourists and you wear a very short mini dress, people might look at you. BUT, nobody will say anything or do anything.

Generally, you can wear what you want. If you wear something silly, people might have a giggle.

There is no dress code and "moderate dress" is not even a term used there. That does not mean that people dress cheap or tacky. Some do, most don't.

People generally wear nice clothes, as most Europeans like to look stylish and fashionable.

each modest person wud dress modestly and it is not necessary whether he is westerner or asian it all depends on the way he was brought up by his parents

"Casual/ Smart casual/ Tuxedo, etc.

That is it."

That's not a dress code, its a suggestion. You wouldn't be penalized for showing up in jeans to a fancy event, you'd just look dumb.

There is no one dress code. Difefrent societies have varying degrees of acceptance and tolerance. However, mainly, it is "To each his own"...

only for the office maybe.. of when you are invited to some event/party, you may ask: is there any dress code? The answer can be: Casual/ Smart casual/ Tuxedo, etc.

But it only not to det underdressed or overdressed for this particular event, for you not to feel uncomfortable comparing to other participants, nothing else..

No. There are no dress codes in Europe. Some countries have traditional outfits (like Germany) that they may wear for special occasions, like Oktoberfest, but it's not mandatory. It's for fun.
