You may have heard Qatar's national anthem several times on the television that is usually played before a football game or other national events. But did you know the current national anthem was adopted in 1996? Read on.
As-Salam al-Amiri, the national anthem of the state of Qatar, was written by Sheikh Mubarak bin Saif al Thani. The fierce tune was composed Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al Obaidan Fakhro.
The new anthem of Qatar was only adopted on December 7, 1996, shortly after the accession of the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
It was first performed during a reception of Gulf Cooperative Council leaders that was held in Qatar and broadcasted live on Qatar's national televesion the same day.
