Dangerous drivers

Do you think Doha would benefit from tighter rules on driver behaviour? and can accident rates be reduced if Rumble lines (the yello lines, forcing drivers to slow down on approaching roundabouts) are used near roundabouts?

Do you have any other ideas on reducing the level of danger appart from the obvious ones i.e. Driver Fines, Driver training etc.?

I wonder why all of us here in this discussion talk about others's bad driving? does that mean none of us is a bad driver? and if this is a fair representative sample of society, then we really dont have a probelem now do we?

The key to changing behaviour is to design and enforce policies backed up by penalties and license restrictions, the three strikes and you are out had worked for New york and heavy fines and black point systems have worked in the UK. People will adhere to laws and regulations if they know they would lose their drivers licenses or even go to jail for non adherance. This was implemented in Dubai on a wide scale and it really made a difference, people are afraid to drive over 100KM per hour because you dont just pay a penalty, but you get black points for every violation and each offense carries a weight in points, some are 4 points and some are 24 and that instant loss of your license and your car impounded for three months to a year.

What can the Police do when such people would themselves violate the rules & then ask their drivers to get the points on their licenses. I wont be surprised to hear reports of license on sale for points.

is a novel idea. But that would require setting down the tea :P

Landcruisers give a sense of being invincible – which is why drivers of MOST landcruisers drive without a care in the world. I’ve seen a honda civic car completely mangled (at Masseid beach) by a Landcruiser – Seeing the paramedics work on the car is something i will never forget in my life - My deepest condolences go out to the family of the young man.

The police should be on a lookout for tailgating (i knw there is a fine for that) and speeding landcruisers (racing) – i see them everywhere. Not sure why the police cannot sight them - is it cause they are Landcruisers. I do not drive a landcruiser and i’m worried with their driving antics.

This goes for both drivers and owners of landcruisers. Once they enter the "cockpit" and put their leg on the dashboard - Jekyll turns into Hyde :-)

The victim of the civic was a relative of someone i know...my deepest condolences. The point is that it could have been any one of us in that car. That young man had dreams, a family - all shattered. Safety while driving is an issue which should be taken up on a warfooting

Even our drivers are scared of getting a ticket coz they know it would cost them "points" against their license AND THEY PAY the fine.

All road users should accept that rules are equal for everyone. When everyone reach above point, there will be less accidents.

and that's what lacking here! It starts with the driving school to instill GOOD discipline for prospective drivers!

have the way (of the road)...especially those %&*((*&^%$%^&* BIG SUV's

I always see/check who's coming very fast and avoid them.

Got out of that accident without any scratches or broken bones...so I'm good. :)

yeah,,,,few meters ahead apporach round-about there must be small humb/speed breaker B'caz still some drivers driving fast even they approach so close to the round about and they dont like/want to stop their vehicle b4 enter into the round about even if the cars coming so close to them from left hand side (inside the round) still they moving fast and its really dangerous thing they do. One more thing for example There are 80 km speed limit along the cornich. But the pople driving 40 km speed in the middle lane.why? So the others who is in behind trying right side over take and it may leading the colusion. so Traffic police must be notice the people who drives too slow in the middle lane. should be drive minimum 70 speed in the middle lane. This also must be consider....

Remove some nationalities completely from the road.

Road safety statistics will show a massive improvement overnight.

Sad, but true.
