Beware !! Recurring medical errors at HMC !!

Some members of the Advisory Council in their latest session made a scathing attack on the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) saying many of its doctors are not up to the mark and the recurring medical errors at its facilities are forcing a number of citizens to rely on private hospitals or seek treatment abroad.

This is the first time the Council members came out so heavily against the HMC doctors and the criticism has triggered a fresh debate on the issue among the citizens, Al Sharq reported yesterday.

Several members of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) have also joined the discussion expressing mixed views on the HMC services.

Opinions varied with some arguing that medical errors are a world wide phenomenon and HMC can not be singled out in that. HMC has many highly qualified doctors and several sophisticated surgeries are being carried out in its hospitals.

“We have been hearing a number of complaints about the hospital regarding wrong diagnosis, wrong surgeries and wrong treatment of patients. The state has invested heavily on the health sector, especially on state-of-the-art equipment. What is the use of such equipment if there are no qualified doctors to do correct diagnosis and provide proper treatment,” wondered Ahmed Al Sheeb, CMC member, in remarks to the daily.

He said many citizens and expatriates are going abroad, afraid of undergoing a surgery at HMC due to the repeated medical errors. Some patients realize the mistake only when they see a doctor abroad. Some who have already undergone the surgery here come to know later that the operation was done in the wrong place, said Al Sheeb.

Most of the respondents had problems with the crowding at the HMC hospitals and the delay in patients’ appointments.

There is no treatment like free treatment........HMC is the best.........the class of patients who get served there care more about their money than their lives. As free health services, HMC is reasonably good. But those who can afford, should go for better treatment.

There is lot of arrogance and high handedness in doctors, nurses communicating with patient. Patients try to ask about their sickness either doctors dont answer or think patients have no right to ask to doctor. doctors never communicated with patients properly. there are many cases where one patients treatment is given to other one just becouse doctor has no time to talk to the patient and ask his name.and they use someone else file to some other patient. I have lost one of my dear friend like this. over that there is cultural arrogance.

They think they treat people free(form govt money) but that doesnt give you right to show arrogance that too in medical field.Plight of people form asian countries is really bad. they treat them like dogs. this is Shameful.

medical mistakes do happen in all hospitals. but medical mistakes due to doctor or nurse arrogance is unacceptable. I never take tratement from hamad. security there is like goondas they should be given some training how to treat patient.

sure there are errors in HMC which happen is also happening in every hospital across the globe.why are you concentrating in those mistakes have you at least considered to check how many lives HMC saved or is being saved this very moment?

What HMC needs is advancement not in technology alone but education as well, teach old dogs new tricks as they would say.

Constructive criticism is acceptable, but let us think first, how many lives are saved compared to those lost? How many people beneit, specially those laborers from their free services and minimal fees for medicine?

Most of the doctors from the neighboring countries are good for nothing.

I would not suggest to have any major conditions to be treated in HMC.

The question remains why people who can afford it normally go abroad for medical treatment if HMC is soooo good?? (Especially locals)
