Bacon and wine for Ramadam
By britishwoman •
Has anyone else seen the Ramadam supplement in yesterdays Gulf Times, page 11 a receipe for stuffed beef tenderloin under procedure/steps it states drape the beef with 4 rashers of bacon and make gravy with maderia wine.
I am not a muslim, but in this holy month and in a supplement expelling the goodness of Islam I am offended. Or should the Gulf Times employ a muslim proof reader?
This morning when I drove to the towers area in Doha I listened to QBS. And guess what they played? "Drink, drink, drink" of Mario Lanza!! But we already knew that Bernie Lions is a total idiot!
somebody has not enough to do and think about me thinks...lol
Look at the bigger picture..the commercial world (including the media) is not much bothered to reflect the essence of fasting in this month of Ramadan. This month is considered pious due to the fact that people while fasting would empathise with the less privileged who don't even get two square meals a day. During this month, people are expected to abstain from all kinds of worldly pleasures and remember the almighty.
Now, look at the commercial advertisements during this month in newspapers and radio channels. Restaurants, hotels and other clubs seem to offer exotic stuff to customers and make most during the night time. Tell me, is it the essence of Islam?
I agree, in Indonesia, I have seen many hotels opened during this month, that is just because, when it comes to business or making money, for entrepreneurs, religion always takes a back seat. It is up to the government to impose strict rules on them, which is lacking in Indonesia.
People like you who get offended at the drop of a hat are the root cause for all the intolerance and hatred you see around these days.Would you be offended if you went to Indonesia (worlds largest muslim country by numbers) and saw restaurants open during ramadan, hotels serving lavish buffets with halal section and non halal section on the same table?Respect the fact that not everyone will respect your beliefs! PS: learn to spell ramadan right. it's not ramadam.
As wingsofsilver correctly pointed out, gulf times need a proofreader.period...part of MANY steps they need to take toward becoming a real newspaper let alone a good one...."just find good peoples & kill the bad peoples" eh?!...who said life wasn't simple?!...
Does it say Pork bacon, the shops here sell, turkey and beef bacon. We also get non alcoholic wine in the shops.
I was surprised the other day, when i was shopping for a large bottle of Eau de cologne, and the girl said, dont forget the red bull. It seems the boys working in the Supermarket mix both together to get high. hmmm
Liked that killing the bad people part...:)
in every religion hv good and bad peoples..........so plz do respect of every religion....just find good peoples and kill the bad peoples.......
about things like that. I once had to cut a 1,000 word story down to about 600, because of things like beer, wine, sex, and seduction.
A business story about bottling firm in Phils was cut because wording referencing their profit made from their beer "factory" had to be deleted.
When doing editing for a well known magazine - the caption words "wine glass" were missed by the page designer - thank goodness I used to check everything...
Turkey bacon (bacon made from turkey meat) and non-alcoholic wine will do.
In January 2000, GT headlined the first baby born in the new millennium christened "Mohamed". I was quite confused...now that's a long time ago but couldn't forget...
PrincessS, Even if it is cake, pie or stuffed beef wine is haram for muslims.
& how about cakes with wine?:p
I believe Gulf Times should employ a proof reader, period. You don't need to be a Muslim to know that such text in a well-known newspaper is not only improper in Ramadan, but also improper in the Arab world in general. I believe it is the common, good old copy-and-paste mistake, where they copied this recipe from a Western magazine or newspaper and blindly pasted it in their newspaper.
Anyways, I find it a bit funny, especially in Ramadan ... very paradoxic :)
Have a nice day everybody.
Given that the Gulf Time's reporters are almost entirely Arabic/Indian thexonic I would say they've got a pretty good grasp of Islam and probably care a good deal about it. However, obviously someone was fasting and not paying attention when that particular recipe came down the wire.
When did media care about islam?
This proofs that the copy - paste action is going on in GT without proper censorship
This morning I listened to QBS and their history of Boyzone.. Forgot to mention that Gately died in 2009.
The best one was when a "Speech Therapist" wrote a letter to Arab News about French lesson etc and signed it Dr. L Lovelace :O)
LOL. Reminds me of the story I heard from a Saudi friend. When Carrefour first opened there they "accidentally" sold liquor filled chocolates. LOL.
