Qatar most peaceful country in MENA region: GPI 2020
In another notable recognition, Qatar has once again been ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as the most secure and socially peaceful country.
According to the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2020, issued by the Institute for Economics and Peace in the Australian city, Sydney, Qatar stands at the top of the MENA rankings as the most peaceful country in the region with a score of 1.616.
Globally, Qatar jumped from number 31 in 2019 to number 27 this year.
GPI is considered as the world's leading measure of global peacefulness. This year's rankings covered 163 independent states and territories.
The GPI 2020 sees Kuwait come second after Qatar in the regional ranking and an overall (global) rank of 39, followed by the United Arab Emirates ranked 41 globally and then Oman, fourth in the region and 68th globally.
The key areas in which Qatar secured high evaluation rates are low rate of homicides and violence, the extent of crime in society and stability of political situations, and a society free from terrorism and its effects and lack of threats or conflicts, The Peninsula reported.
