It was only two months ago that Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that people could apply online for family visit visas via the Metrash2 application.

The ministry evaluated the service over the last two months and the results have shown that the experiment was a success. The General Directorate of Passports is expected to evaluate the service on a daily basis and make more changes, with the ultimate aim of making visit visa applications an entirely online procedure, reported Gulf Times.

The number of people seeking visit visas for their family members has also seen a huge increase.

While the Expatriates Affairs Department received 15,500 family visit visa requests in May, the General Directorate of Passports got a massive 53,000 requests at its different service centres.

This was an almost 27.5% increase from April, when the numbers were 12,200 and 49,000 respectively, reported The Peninsula.

Family visit-visa application service is one of the most important and popular services requested by residents.

The online visa service is available specifically to residents for their families including father, mother, wife, children or relatives of the first and second grades, said Expats Affairs Department Director Brigadier Abdullah Ali Al Mohannadi, according to Qatar Tribune.

How to apply for family visit visas online

The applications can be submitted online vis Metrash2 app or the MoI’s official website.

While the services are currently in its pilot testing phase, it will eventually become the only way to apply for family visit visas, replacing paper applications at offices.

A user can upload all required documents in allocated fields, track its progress and pay for it electronically once it is approved.

If there are any missing or non-matching documents, applicants will be notified online to make required changes. Everything will be done electronically and efficiently.
