Mowasalat to expand fleet of taxis and buses
As part of preparations for Eid Al Fitr celebrations, public transport service provider, Mowasalat, has added more taxis and buses to its fleet to enhance and expand services to areas expected to witness more visitors during festivities.
Additional taxis and buses have been deployed to serve areas outside Doha and its suburbs, especially the Industrial Area and places where festivities are being held, Al Sharq reported yesterday.
To provide affordable and safe transportation, the company has added more vehicles to its advance booking services category and added services to people with special needs on the prior booking basis.
The company said it is flooded with enquires for advance booking services and has been working in cooperation with private transport companies such as Al Ijarah, Al Million, Ibn Ajyaan and Perfect.
To ensure smooth and uninterrupted services, Mowasalat has extended working hours of its operation rooms so that changing drivers’ shifts is smooth and taxis can be dispatched as quickly as possible.
The daily quoting Mowasalat sources said initiatives have been taken to avoid traffic jams on roads and reduce air pollution which will help discourage people from using private vehicles.
The company has also upgraded its electronic system by installing cutting-edge technology for effective monitoring of its services.
Given the rush at Hamad International Airport due to vacation, Mowasalat has deployed more vehicles to the airport.
It has also added limousine services (2015 BMW 3, 5 and 7 series cars) to its fleet that serves the airport to meet the increasing number of visitors and passengers.
Khalid Nasser Al Hail, CEO, Mowasalat, expressed pleasure at the launch of the modern limousine fleet and said it is in line with the development in Qatar evidenced by the new airport and other projects.
Limousine services can be booked on 44588888.
Thank you Mowasalat. With the addition of buses, hopefully one would see some improvement in the service also. I am a regular user of the bus service and the general comments that I get to hear from the regular travelers are as follows: Bus disappears and does not arrive for hours at a stretch especially during the morning hours when people need to get to work leaving them with no other option but to hire a taxi. I have faced this problem several times myself. I am sure that Mowasalat is aware that most people who use the bus service are from that bracket of people who cannot afford a taxi. Secondly, there are several times when buses of the same route are trailing one behind the other with both buses hardly having any passengers in them. While waiting at the bus station I once noticed 3 buses of number 43 leaving the station within a span of just 10 minutes. Surely, this reflects poor planning. If proper planning was done, one of the 3 buses could have been diverted to route 41 as the bus of this route was absent for over an hour that day on which I was going to travel. Thirdly, the frequency of buses leaving the bus station on Fridays in the evening hours should be increased as this day sees a heavy rush at the bus station during this period of time. Lastly, Mowasalat, should consider the placing of shaded sitting areas where they are currently not available. One such place is on the road which has the Human Rights office where passengers usually stand under the nearby trees for shade while waiting for the bus.
