Insurance cover for flood-hit cars

All the vehicles that got trapped and damaged in the recent flood at Salwa road are eligible for claiming their insurance coverage, a top executive at a leading insurance company said.

Khalifa Abdullah Turki Al Subaey, CEO, Qatar Insurance Group, said the concerned insurance companies are obliged to accept claims of the vehicle owners.

Talking to an Arabic daily, Al Subaey said the vehicles were trapped on the Salwa road not because of floods, but due to water logging. Water logging cannot be considered as ‘natural disaster’, a provision that is being exempted from Qatar’s automobile insurance coverage.

“Water logging was mainly because of the poor designing of the road. It cannot be considered as ‘a natural calamity’,” the daily quoted Al Subaey as saying.
