HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Amiri Diwan yesterday.

The two leaders discussed different ways to promote bilateral relations between the nations in various fields, especially in investment, energy, food security and military co-operation, reported Gulf Times.

They also exchanged their views on current regional and international issues.

At the outset of the session, HH The Amir welcomed the Pakistani Prime Minister to the country and expressed his hope that the visit would contribute to enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Imran Khan expressed happiness about his first visit to Qatar, thanking HH The Amir and stressing his country’s keenness to develop relations with Qatar, according to The Peninsula.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and a number of other ministers also attended the talks.

Meanwhile, Khan, who was on a two-day visit, urged Qatari businessmen to invest in all sectors of Pakistan’s economy including energy, petroleum and petrochemicals, agricultural research, food processing, culture, tourism, education and infrastructure development.

“There are opportunities galore for Qatari investors in Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.

Khan invited Qatari private sectors to help his government build five million low-cost housing units over the next five years. He also discussed ways of establishing joint projects between Qatari and Pakistani businessmen, especially in food and industry sectors.

The Pakistani Prime Minister was seen off at the Hamad International Airport by HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi and other top officials.

Very true that Pakistan has tremendous potential for supplying items to Qatar and also for Qatari investors. After Iran, Pakistan is the closest country from where all types livestock, agricultural and manufactured goods can be imported. There were will considerable savings in freight due to the shorter distance between the two countries. With the opening of the Gawadar port which will be operational soon, the distance between Pakistan and Qatar will just be a hop. The savings in freight costs, can be passed on to consumers.

I had been searching for a Qatari investor for several years as I had an idea up in my mind for starting a very lucrative business in Pakistan that would give fast returns, but have been unlucky in this respect. I will keep on trying to see if anyone would be interested.
