Qatar’s healthcare industry will get a significant boost when a new, state-of-the-art cancer center launches in a few years, said a senior official in Doha on Monday.

The specialised cancer center is set to offer treatments to citizens, residents, and international patients seeking cancer care in Qatar.

“The good news is that a new hospital is upcoming, which is great for cancer care. Thankfully, with the support of HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, a new, comprehensive hospital is being built,” said Dr. Mohamed Salem Al Hassan, Medical Director and CEO of National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR), a part of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

“Currently, cancer treatment is fragmented, making patients travel between hospitals. This can be very challenging for them. The new hospital will offer all services under one roof, including surgery and non-surgical treatments, so patients won’t have to suffer anymore,” he was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.

“We’ve already started the project, and hopefully, within two or three years, it’ll be completed. It’ll be a fantastic addition to cancer care,” he said, during a media tour to explain the ‘Your Health, Our Priority’ campaign.

The NCCCR official said cancer patients at HMC currently benefit from advanced facilities and latest technologies.

“Our treatment options, including chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies, are personalised to ensure expert care throughout the journey. HMC is a national and regional leader in cancer care, offering unique technologies that set us apart.”

“Our facilities feature advanced treatment modalities, such as robotic-assisted surgery and innovative imaging techniques, enabling precise interventions that enhance patient outcomes,” he added.

Dr Al Hassan said the NCCCR had also started a survivorship programme clinic.

“This refers to patients who have completed five years after cancer treatment. We call them ‘survivorship patients.’ For them, we’ve arranged special clinics with the Primary Health Care Corporation, and they’re being followed up in the primary healthcare,” said Dr Al Hassan.
