Work visa processing for QP Job

Hello Everyone:
I wonder how the work visa process goes in qatar.

According to qatar's MOI website, the work visa processing takes only 24 hours. Here is the web link:

http://www.moi.gov.qa/English/info_center/Visa_Information.html

However I was told by QP HR staff that it takes 3 weeks.

Also, once the employer finishes this process in qatar, how long it takes for employee to get it from his home country (in my case its canada). If its like visit visa that you dont need it stamped on your passport and you just arrive at airport and they stamp it there?

Or its like that after the processing in qatar, you have to get it stamped from qatar embassy in canada? If so, how long it takes and what documentation is required?

Best Regards,

Thanks adey but this would require me to travel out of ontario, and few tests that I did privately which were not covered by OHIP, I have their original results.

I sent them the results today. I called the HR last night and the person there said visa shud be available in 2 weeks inshallah.

Got mine done privately in Jordan for about $200, would have cost $1000 back home in London. Go private and keep the receipt as I do believe QP reimbuses you this cost (I think 100%) in your first wage packet.

Thanks Adey again for valuable comments.

Yes the medical is very detailed, seems they not inviting u to live outer space :).

The other problem with medical is that QP wants to get originals, while in ontario, canada originals are not issued to individuals but stay with physician/lab.

I think it should be better in calgary/alberta as there health system is semi private.

well you could be lucky and get it done quicker. I would politly keep bombarding your QP contact with emails inquiring when all your processing will be completed. If your contact is from the HR dept. then I would keep pestering them completely, HR is the most insanely red taped organization I have ever come across- I could tell you stories!- you have to laugh or you will explode, that is the real meaning of 'welcome to Qatar'

When I gave my medical forms to the doctor he said "good god! are you applying to be a fighter pilot?.

"No, just a teacher", I replied.

His expression was just !!!!???!!?!?!!!!????

Thanks adey for the comments.

Thats a good thing that once the processing is done by employer, employee does not have to run after the qatar embassy in home country to get it stamped on his passport. However 3-4 months is surprisingly long as the web site says its 24 hours.

There is no start date mentioned on contract, however there is an end date. Its a finite contract until 30 april 2009 (less than 2 years).

in my case, 2 yrs ago, QP took about 3-4 months to process the work visa. There is the medicals to go throw in your home country then you have them done all again first thing on arrival!!

Things have not got any better I'm afraid. QP is a very very slow moving bureacratic machine. Be patient, they will get there in the end - have you got a start date?

I was sent my visa via email and just presented it at immigration at Doha.
