Can anyone help with information on processing a visa if I can not obtain a copy of my diploma?

I do not have a degree - I have been offered the job. I do have a diploma but the college has closed down and I have no idea where my certificate is because I have not needed it as my professional experience far outways that and it has never been a problem with employment.

Can anyone please help with information of how to get around this????????? It is urgent - I am surpossed to be flying out in 3 weeks

Thanks Shay

I'll be flying out to Qatar later this month, and my employer already knows me so he isn't bothered about certificates.

However, he too told me to send any one certificate high school/ diploma etc for the Visa. I am thinking that it is something to do specifically with a business visit visa.

Either way, your problem seems to have solved itself so cheers!

Hi Shay,

I am pretty sure you will be ok, I have been here for two months and they have yet to ask me for my uni degree.

Are you all packed and ready?

Cheers,

AusM

Thanks guys - I have spoken to them again - now they are happy for a copy of my high school certificate - this is all very strange to me!!!!! They have booked my flights - just waiting to process the visa with this certificate - so we have gone from a copy of a degree to a diploma to a high school certificate!!!!!

Very frustrating..now I have to dig that up!!

Thanks again for the feedback!

Cheers Shay

I'm not sure where you are from, but in Canada the different provincial departments of education maintain records of post-secondary qualifications from recognized educational institutions.

And to alleviate your worry, it's the employer's requirement, not a visa one.

Talk to your HR rep, I'm sure it isn't a show-stopper.

Do they require a transcript of your marks or just a copy of the certificate for your diploma? How long ago did you graduate? Try checking with the government regulatory body for post secondary education in your state--they may be able to help you out in some way. Do you have anything to prove you went to school like receipts you might have used when filing income tax?

Shay,

Let the employer know the situation ASAP. I had a similar difficulty (albeit in Abu Dhabi) and my sponsor accepted that.

They can always check you credentials and experience (that's what really matters) with your past employers.

Would your past employers have a copy of your diploma?

I don't think it's a visa issue - it's whether your employer will accept you in the position without certification of your qualifications... so I think you need to be talking to your employer about that possibility...

Could be wrong, though - maybe someone else can confirm...

Edited to clarify: Your employer is the sponsor of your visa, so yes, it is in some ways a visa issue, but AFAIK not one which the Immigration Office decides. Your employer MUST agree to accept you without a copy of the certificate before your visa can be processed.
