Visa and more

Hi you all

I have a new asignment that will take me to Qatar for a period of 3 years or more.

Me and my 2 children have the Dutch nationality and my wife has the Ethiopian nationality

We want to travel to Qatar for a first look at the possiblities fir houses and schools at the 1st of May.

Now my questions are

1) do we need to apply for visa and do we have to apply here in China (were we currently live) or can we get a visa upon arrival and do we need some kind of invitation letter for this 5 day visit?

2) We will be looking for a semi furnished 4 bedroom villa on a compound or a nice 4 bedroom appartment were it is safe for the kids can anybody give some advice were to start?

3)Which are the best international schools in Qatar?

4) is it possible to rent a car at the airport ( or is it better to rent it in the town).

5) can anybody recommend some nice hotels in Doha in a central location.

I sincerly hope that the experienced expats and friendly locals can help us out with these questions

 My email is [email protected]

Thanks Eef

Thanks again Novita,

This is a good tip, now that you mentioned it I remember that this was also common practice in Dubai.

I will contact one of the hotels with these questions.

Thanks again

I heard that if you book the hotels in Doha, they can help you to arrange the visas for your wife. Maybe you should just do that. Contact the hotel that you going to stay, explain your situation (mention your wife nationality) and ask wether the hotel can do the visa for you.

Hi Novita,

Thanks for your quick reply.

The information of the schools is very helpfull and we will sure pay these schools a visit.

I will check out the hotels you mentioned I am sure I can find some more info on the net.

It would be nice if you or anybody could give me some more info about the visa we need to obtain and what kind of documents we need.

I am worried for my wife because we lived in the Gulf before (Dubai, Bahrain) and I remember it was allways difficult for Ethiopian nationals to get a visa there.

Thanks Eef

eefye ... international school in Qatar. If you are dutch there is school call Compass that i know alot of Dutch family going to.

English family normally sent their kids to Doha English Speaking school while the american goes to American School of Doha.

I also hear good things about Park House english school.

And there is a list of some schools on this site too :

http://www.qatarliving.com/schools

Hv a look at this site that i found in the paper :

http://www.alasmakhrealestate.com/about.asp

There are plenty car hire in the airport when you arrive, but i have no idea about pricing. And there are plenty around town too.

Hotel in Doha places like Ramada Hotel is very central.

Anything else you want to ask just ask away.

PS: Le Cigale, Hyatt Regency, Millenium Hotel, Marriot they quite in the central of Doha too. You still need taxi to go places but these hotels are not outskirt of Doha.
