Sponsor spouse needs Criminal Record Cert!!!!
My wife is here under my sponsorship, she has been offered a job a month ago, but suprisingly yesterday she was told she needs a Criminal Record Certificate from back home. We have a week to provide it. These are the steps we need to take:
*Criminal record to be requested by wife's brother in a city 400kms from the capital.
*He has to take it to the Ministry of Justice in the Capital to get it attested.
*Then to the ministry of foreign affairs for another attestation,
*Then send it here, we need to take it then to our embassy in Qatar for another attestation.
*Then to the qatai minstry of interior or foreign affairs.
All this in under then one week!!!! what to do peeps?
It even gets stranger. We live here since 1995. Suddenly my wife, sponsored by me, needs a police report to continue working. She gets it from the Ministry of Justice. It is rejected because it needs to be stamped by the Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry cannot stamp the document because the Justice Ministry is higher ranking. Currently the Embassy is trying to solve this stupid problem.
Mandi...my wife is already here..your friend is not. my wife has a RP, your friend doesn't. I find this very strange.
Right, except it is a rule for all expats who get a job. RP holders only don't need police clearance. I have a friend going through the same thing in the US right now. She wants to work so she has to get the police clearance and THEN the attestation, certification, etc. It's a lengthy and expensive process.

British Embassy cannot help my wife, she's not British, Alpha: Regardless of my nationality I'm talking about my wife not me....duh.
Anyway what I do not understand is why a person who already resides and has gone through Medical, fingerprints and the works....is asked for this!!!
As stated in your profile there should be no problem.

U shouldn't really need a criminal record certificate from back home - your best bet is to go to the British embassy for help. What happened to me was I was simply asked to pick up a piece of paper that was attested by the consul here that I had no criminal record back home, that then had to be stamped by the ministry of interior, and that was more or less that. Maybe u should go to the british embassy who may well be able to give you the clarification.
If that is the law then then you have to satisfy it..:)

In the US we have "document expediters" who, for a large fee, will go through the steps for you quickly.

Everyone..thank you for your posts, but you are not reading my post properly.
I have sponsored my wife to be here. She has a residence permit already, she went through the normal process for the spouce of a resident expat.
Our Embassy does not issue Criminal Record certificate, they are issues in the high court where my wife was born, back in our country. It needs then to be attested at the Ministry of Justice and then at the Ministry of foreign affairs in our country. Then when we bring it here, we need to take it to the our embassy to attest it and then the Qatar Ministry of foreign affairs.
Hope it's clearer
hi.. not to worry... this is not sth difficult. i had 2 go thru this n its fairly simple. at least it was last year.
all U need 2 do is go 2 our embassy, n apply 4 the police clearance certificate, give in copy of ur passport. its upto them 2 contact the state wer ur passport was issued n follow up n ensure if the records r clean.
after dt they'll issue the certificate which will need 2 b attested by the Minstry of Foreign Affairs. Take this 2 the Labour Dept. Whole process hsud not take more than a week, max 10 days.
Good luck..
This is a normal procedure here in Qatar and being an expats need the job, we are obliged to follow whatever it takes.
In the first place, you should have asked your wife to secure those documents before she came here.
Don't worry, I'm sure that your wife's employer would be willing to wait till that certificate arrived at their hand.
On the brighter side, the employer already asked to complete her requirement which is very positive that she will get the job, all you have to do is asked them to be patience and the rest will be in the right.
God Bless & Goodluck...
Kakaw, I do not want you to do anything, this is a fourm, i am voicing my opinion and expecting others to add their opinions. Sarcasm aside, maybe you do not understand the concept of a forum.
Anyway....if you read the post again, you will see that a receipt just won't do, our lovely embassy doesn't provide Criminal Records, it needs to be done through the ministry of justice back home.
Go to your embassy, then ask them for criminal record...and I’m sure they will tell you it will take 2 months...all what you need just to get a receipt and show it to the employer to proof that your paper in process
So what do you want us to do...!!!!
