My son is to graduate in the US this coming year. I have Iqama. Do I need my sponsors permission to leave the country? What if they wont give it to me, does this mean I am stuck here and cant go to see my son? I am American.

ajnabi, Females also must have an exit permit unless they are sponsored by their husbands or parents.

If your sponsor is not allowing you to go, if you really want to fight, approach your embassy and you have luckly a strong Embassy who take care of all the nationalities.

Even if you have your own business, you should have a Qatari sponsor as well.

In such case, if you had an agreement with your sponsor or (Business partner) that you have an authorised signature in immegration dept. that allows you to sigh the exit permit application, then you can issue your own permits any time.

Otherwise your sponsor has to sign the request.

In extreme conditions if you insist to leave the country , you may go to the deportation section ( I don't know the current location) and provide them with your passport if you have it. They will contact your sponsor and negotiate with him.

But bear in mind that in such situation, your RP will be cancelled.

But what I am asking is, if I work private, not for a 'company' and I want to go and they for whatever reason dont want to let me go, I cant go and then come back, or I just plain cant go and am stuck in this country?

But what if you work private? Not for a company and they wont give you an exit permit? You cant leave? I have a sponsor but need to ask permission to leave if I want reentry? What if I decide I dont want to come back?

Yes. Yes. Doesn't matter.

Most sponsors would allow you to go on vacation if you have leave days, worked for them at least a year, and don't have any crucial tasks to complete.

Yes you need permission from you company. I usually apply for exit permit thru my company. It is a one/two day(s) kind of thing. Normally company would allow you to leave, unless you are assigned some crucial tasks for those days. OR you are on the company's bad book.
