Residency With Apartment?
Now that people are moving into apartments that they have purchase at Zig Zag and on The Pearl, has anyone actually been granted residency due to property ownership? It was a big selling point by the developers, but my own developer has now gone strangely deaf, dumb and blind when questioned on the subject.
It's not a huge deal for me, but I know that a lot of people bought apartments only because of the promised residency for parents and children.
... by the way Raven, property ownership here is not all bad. I made a million (Riyals) on one property in a year. Not a bad return for the 282K I invested in it.
Of course, it is always subject to approval. And they can approve or not, just as they like.
Interesting, entitled to apply but not guaranteed to be given....I wouldn't touch property ownership over here with a barge pole.
There you go - useful info Translator, TFS.
"Under Article 3 of Decree No:17 issued on June 6, 2004 by the Emir of Qatar, his highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani property owners are entitled to apply for a residency visa upon the purchase of a property. This visa includes dependent children and is valid until the resale of the property."

Check out the local law about owning property / residency. Does your contract say anything? I suppose not. Best to ask your embassy this question, they should know the answer.
I told you not to trust anyone!
