medical exam question

hello there,

i'm having trouble finding a clear answer in this forum so i thought i would ask for some help.

i've been offered to work in doha but my employer told me i had to take a medical exam/blood test. i said okay no problem but i did some research about what the medical exam researches. i do not have hiv/aids, hepatitis b/c, or tuberculosis. but i do have a std, something i'm not proud of and its something i can control with medication.

if i take this exam, what are my chances of being accepted? i wish not to disappoint the company that is hiring me.

any help is greatly appreciated.

thank you!

Hi mzamora,

Have you undergone the medical checks? Did you the RP? I'm in similar situation I don't have HIV, TB but have Herpes and don't want to leave my current job only to get my RP rejected and be deported.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You cannot send meds by mail/courier without getting past through customs. Also, all medicines are checked/screened by the medical commission and you need to present your prescription to them for release. They will open each and every packet, and literraly count the meds in front of you. Bottomline, it is a very rigorous process. It would be better if you bring in your meds that will last until your next rotation, that's probably 3 months if you are from the US. Just don't stress yourself too much so that you won't get any breakout...

Good luck...

i appreciate both your support. i really do, its very helpful.

out of curiosity, lets assume i take the medical exam, i pass, and i start working. and lets say a month goes by and i happen to start having breakouts. can i get a prescription from a local clinic? do I need to prove to them that I have a work visa? is it safe to mail prescription pills from the states to my address or po box without customs asking questions?

sorry for askin many questions, i just want to make sure that i can be comfortable living here, considering my condition.

There are different type of herpes, and mostly herpes antibodies is only active while you are infected (currently have blisters, etc). Furthermore, as per my understanding, it will not show in your blood unless it is on it's active state. Herpes is present in the nervous system, so blood test will not detect it's presence (unless it's active). Also, not all herpes are STD...my daughter when she was 1 yr old developed herpes simplex and was treated here with antibiotics and topical anaesthesia.

Bottom line, unless there is blister showing on any part of your body due to herpes, don't take the test.

A few Doctor friends said that...but you should take opinions from others too.

yes, herpes, not hepatitis.

how can i know your word is safe? where else can i confirm this information?

i do not mean to offend, i just want to make sure that after a couple months of negotiating with my employer, i do not want to disappoint them with a failed medical exam. i hope you can understand my urgency.

thank you again.

I don't intend on making any relationships with any women in Doha. I'm full of shame and guilt as it is. Its my moral responsibility to reserve to myself and no one else. I have the big "h".

Are you saying that I'm safe to take this medical exam without having to be deported?

What STD do you have? Normally the three things you mentioned are checked, nothing more! Please use protection once you are here!!!
