I am a Brit who is on quite a bit less than 40k - no idea where Lucky gets that 100k figure from.

Anyway, you will be fine on that amount - based on my salary and desired standard of living etc I should think you'll have about 20k left over each month for savings. However, that's if your company actually pays the salary. Ask current employees on the company reliability and how long it will be before your 1st pay cheque, also check on if they'll pay expenses for document legalisation etc.

I came over in Nov last year and received my residents permit in 2 weeks. Same for drivers license etc.

As for housing, I live outside Doha in a 1 bed "granny annex" type villa. It costs me 4500 / month, furnished, bills, maintenance etc all included. I personally wouldn't live inside Doha even if I was working there. It takes me 15 minutes drive down the express way to get in to Doha when needed, although it took me 6 months to find the right place (no one wants to rent to single young men).

Good luck mate
