I had this problem. The answer really is to let go of your dog. If you want your dog to have a happier life then you must leave it behind. It really is too much for a dog here but not impossible. Personally, I am glad I didn't bring mine now as he would have suffered and it would have been cruelty. Not the answer you would want but I am sure you will appreciate honesty.
