I can see that his opposition to same sex marriage would actually be a hinderence to him becoming Archbishop. In the past decade the Anglican Church of Canada almost separated from the Anglican Church as a whole because it choose to start performing gay marriage ceremonies, perhaps the majority of the church in England wants to do the same once gay marriage is legalized in the UK?
