Most people are confused by internet speeds. Some think if they get a 4Mb (Mega-bit) line from their service provider, they should see 4MB (mega-byte) downloads which is not accurate at all. Keeping mindful there are 8 bits per byte, you can see the max download speed you should have on a 4Mb ADSL Q-tel line is about 0.5MB per second (500kB per second). This was the exact speed I had for the last couple years.

I recently was upgraded to Q-Tel Fiber Optic and am trying out the 100Mb package. Theoretical max download speed should be 12.5MB/s, but the best I have seen yet is around 9.5MB/s.
