For a good couple of days Sadia kept on being tossed on the horns of the dilemma of whether to share a picture or not. Finally, she thought about something. She thought it would be a better idea to see him through a live webcam before sending her picture. It was possible, she thought, that he was not the same person whose pictures were on the profile. Kamal agreed. She made a skype id and they specified some certain time on which to chat.
Sadia was scared. No one in her family knew she was in touch with Kamal. No one even knew she was on FB. Her name on FB was Viola Khan and it was under this pseudonym that she interacted with people on different pages. So far she was not particularly concerned. But chatting with a guy for the first time was certainly unnerving for her to some extent.
She had to lock the door from inside in order to make sure no one would catch her unawares. It was decided that they would chat at 11 oclock in the night. She was online almost five minutes prior to that time. Kamal came online after twenty minutes.
Kamal: Hey, nice to see you here, Viola.
Sadia: Hello, thanks.
K: How are you doing?
S: I'm good; you?
K: Pretty good; thanks. So you wanted to see if I am really the person or not?
S: Well, what?
K: I mean you told me in the message that you were a little reluctant to share your photo but would happily do so if you knew a little more about myself.
S: That is right. Actually, I thought it would make me feel safer if I could see you in live chat.
K: Ahan, alright.
S: OK.
K: I am going to turn on my webcam now. Is that fine with you?
S: Yep, sure.
K: Can you see me?
S: [a pause in the usual pace of the chat, Sadia is looking at the picture, he is the same person for sure, only, perhaps, looking even nicer, than his still picture. He is wearing a white T-shirt and his hair is so sweetly disturbed giving such casualness to his look, Sadia realizing that she has not responded for longer than she should have, eagerly touches her fingers to the key board] Oh, yes I can.
K: Ahan fine. You do not have a cam right?
S: Well, if you mean a webcam, then yes I do not have.
The chat continued, incredibly, for 7 hours and Sadia was only made to realize this by the sounds of the her door bell ringing. The milkman was at the door to deliver milk.
In their chat, Sadia and Kamal talked about so many things. Mostly they seemed so curious to know more about each other. Both said in the end that they did not want to finish the chat and wished they could have talked more.
Kamal did not ask again for her picture. Although he kept on exchanging messages with her, he did not mention her photo again. Sadia was painfully aware of this. In fact, she had already decided on which photo to share with him. But she never wanted to send it unless he had asked for it.
