Jem has digged herself a racial discrimination hole too big to get out of. Don't expect any rational answer from her anymore. She thinks her (jobless) husband is better than anybody else - but she forgets that her praising him is biased and therefore irrelevant for any potential employer. I feel there is a lot more to this story. But in the end (and thanks to the OP's posts) it boils down to one thing: Racist bitterness. Sad - but true.
