I agree with AD--this can happen anywhere. But that does not mean we should ignore it when it is happening so close to our current home, which shares an common system of domestic work employment.
My concern is that the current sponsorship laws in KSA enable it to such a great degree, because it places a great many women in a very vulnerable position. And because the legal system in KSA is so lenient on citizens and so harsh on foreign workers. Sponsor kills maid--must be a suicide. Maid kills sponsor--off with her head (quite literally).
All such stories underline my believe that the sponsorship system is more bad than good. I am glad that Indonesia had stood up to KSA and wish other countries would do likewise until it changes its laws.
