I am a little offended by this comment

'With all due respect, after all none of you really care for improving or even questioning the country's laws, public money or reforms'

Now lets look at this in another light. "Giving back to the community in any manner possible."

As you are well aware, I am involved in charity work here in Qatar - I, along with 3 other ladies work our butts off to help the community getting stray and unwanted animals off the streets - We do this not only to ensure the animals are safe and cared for, but also to make the streets safer for people - alot of our intake of animals is from the animal ministry that recently started a trapping programme without thinking about what to do with the animals they trap - who do they call? US - why, because they know we care about what happens in the community and we don't want the animals to return to the streets - do we get any government assistance to help us run our shelter? No - why? because we are expatriates and they would prefer it rather if it was done by a Qatari - now you know the answer to that one....

All we are wanting is a charity number so we can avail the money thats being offered to us, but cannot take - but its deemed not important enough to assist us, cause we are just a bunch of expats - been in enough meetings with ministries to know how we are ridiculed - even laughed at to our faces... and all we are trying to do, is give back to Qatar - maybe not financially, but certainly in our way.

We give back what we can, but I can tell you why most people don't - because what's the point? Why should they, when expats are regularly told, this isn't your country - its none of your business - If, as someone mentioned earlier, expats were given citizenship after a certain period here - you'd probably find quite a few stepping up to the plate and getting involved, since it will be "their" country too!
