Qatar food safety is appalling given the overall wealth of the country. Residents are rarely informed of food poisoning outbreaks or inspection reports of places where food is sold or served. All public information elsewhere. There is also an awful lot of products that come from China (sometimes via UEA processors) that are otherwise banned in Western countries (grain in particular).

To be fair, however, the government has made significant strides in last year, but it has a long way to go.

The lesson is only buy brands you trust from countries of origin you trust when at all possible. Sometimes it is more expensive, but it's worth it. And make it yourself with reliable ingredients rather than buying processed.
