My first experience of this fact is when I came to Qatar 5 years ago and stayed with my Qatari sponsor's family.
As I was both the chaperone/driver for the daughters and their son(youngest)..I spend more time with them during their free time.
One afternoon, the son (aged 10 then) came home from a game and came straight to my room showing his bloodied knees and elbows. Instead of running to his mom, he came to me to nurse his wounds. When he's sick, I have to absent myself from work coz he wanted me to take care of him.
The affinity of the children to their household help is inevitable since the maids/drivers spend more time with these kids than their parents who are either busy working or doing their own thing.
