When my wife and I rented our flat a few month back we had to give the 12 post-dated cheques plus the one month security deposit that he cashed immediately. Now each month he has submitted the checks to the banks earlier than the date on the cheque (even though there is a clause in our lease saying he will not do so). The bank went ahead and paid the cheques but the principle of the issue bugs me. So this month I talked to the bank and asked them what I could do to make sure he couldn't cash the cheques early and they told me there is nothing I can do. PDCs are not recognized by the banks and any check is valid when submitted.

Sucks to be a in a where this is the common practice and the laws don't protect the consumer.
