There is no right to respect, it has to be earned again every day.
Well, many Qataris are very rude. I have often been cut in front of in line and when I protested I was told "I am Qatari." Qataris in general have low educational achievement and professional skills (not the elite, but the masses)-particularly the men and show little interest in bettering themselves.
Qataris have little tolerance for outsiders and it is often made clear to me that we are not wanted here and only tolerated because we are needed. If it is made clear that I am only here because I'm needed and not because I'm valued, why would I wish to become more involved in such a society? It is simple, Qataris use us and we use them, that is the nature of the relationship.
Qatar has made absolute tremendous achievements in the last 15 years, but the mindsets of many young Qataris seem to be becoming as distasteful and arrogant as that of many Saudis. I have great time and relationship for most Qataris over the age sixty, and for certain members of the cosmopolitan elite, but I consider spending time with many Qataris under the ago of about 40 a waste of time-particularly the men.
