it's fair to hold them responsible to STILL air it when they no longer feel it makes sense.
If they advertised a televised interview it in advance, then it would be reasonable I think to expect them to make an announcement that they will no longer be airing an interview. But it's their news station, their decision -- not like they reneged on a contract with an employee or something.
Journalists likely interview and compile research from many different sources (or at least I hope they do!). And in then end, it is THEIR decision (IMHO) which pieces make the final cut and get quoted or put on camera.
Maybe they found new information that made the Prince's interview irrelevant. Maybe their time slot got cut and they couldn't air as much as they wanted to. Maybe they found another, more interesting story to pursue.
Whatever their reasons, I feel it's their call to make.
