Brit,

According to the recent research particularly concerned with the cases of birth deformities, Punjab is paying with the health of its people for uranium contamination to ash from region's coal fired power stations. It could also result from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Indian government is committed to an expansion of thermal plants in Punjab and other states. Around the world, many other countries are planning to build new coal-fired power plants, including China, Russia, India, Germany, UK and the United States. I personaaly feel that expansion and progress are required in the modern world, but definitely NOT at the cost of lives. The Govt.must take firm steps to control the contamination of Uranuim in both air and water which affects the entire state. Besides, the Govt. must ensure that these power plants are operating within the specified norms stipulated by local and international organizations.

Very high level of uranium means the lifetime cancer risk and permanent disabilities, hence the GOVT must come up with a plan of preventive measures in large scale not to detoxify those affected but to detoxify the entire state!
