It happens all the time here, and over the years I've learned how to deal with it. Just pick up your phone, pretend to take their picture, threaten to call the cops, and you won't see them for dust!
I've been followed whilst out walking my dogs by a creepy guy in his car, saying sexually explicit and revolting things to me. Just what exactly is going on in his head?? Does he honestly believe that I'm going to jump into his car and have sex with him?? (btw, not a Qatari) I can deal with it, and truly think he's a pathetic, retarded excuse of a man, but if my teenage daughter was subjected to this kind of abuse, she would not know how to react. (although I have told her what to do, she would still be shocked I'm sure)
I've been followed home from Villaggio several times, been stalked round Carrefour by a guy pretending to be interested in pasta sauces................the list goes on.
It's par for the course living here, and I think a lot of it is because men don't know how to socially interact with or approach girls. Personally, if a guy asks me for my phone number, I don't get offended, because I know they think it's a totally acceptable thing to do here. If they're polite and not pushy, I just smile, say I'm married and not interested. If they start to pester me, that's when I do the phone thing!
