It's not always about religion either. In the UK I have so many friends who would have loved to be able to stay home when their kids were small but didn't have the choice because they would never be able to live on one salary. Even though child care can take up to 50% of the salary it is still the only option for so many people. I think that's sad too. It should always be about choice whatever the circumstances.
