winn, sure there are many poor people but does it mean that we divert all funds and efforts onto that one goal? shouldn't all this go together, the technological and the economic development?
i feel it has more to do with achievements and accomplishing dreams. dont u think this little achievement could encourage (atleast) one little kid to dream of an exciting future and feel proud? wouldnt this give him encouragement to go on and accomplish his dreams?
i grew up learning about how brain drain affects our economy (hated those essays!), how we fill the top spots in other places while giving nothing back to our own country. cant achievements like these help this cause and keep the talent at home?
launching satellites is no doubt going to be a big commercial venture, and the space program will always be a profit making expertise.
the americans and russians started it for pride and their missions were resource based ones, the european missions are technological. However, this has more scientific goals with the main object being to map the surface of the moon, look for signs of water, learn about its evolution, signs of past life and also to sent down a probe with the tricolor! are u saying that these are not exciting, and that we should focus solely on poverty? we should aim to eradicate poverty, but should not get left behind doing it because then we'd really be poor! Lets all keep moving forward while also trying to raise up those amongst us who are ECONOMICALLY weak.

years to look forward to include 2011: unmanned rover on the moon and 2015: Indian on moon, (2016: my tea shop and curry house (for the brits) on the moon)
