It causes a lot of issues and confusion now days because many can't afford to get married or have to wait because the dowries are set so high. It has become more of a status symbol. (Our daughter's dowry was ...., or we paid so much in dowry money) It is kind of backwards thinking in my opinion. Money or possessions can not protect a human being.
