I agree with Gypsy. Apart from the deportation aspect, in many cultures it would be considered his right to drink or not as he liked. I am not saying that this is my opinion, just fact. I have given up trying to describe my old life to some people here, as a school nurse I had to respect the confidentiality of all pupils, even if they were 15 and wanted contraception or had a bad hangover. Only in extreme circumstances would a parent be informed, for example if the drinking was a disciplinary matter. Also, in the UK at boarding schools, the sixth formers, when they are 18 are not only allowed to drink alcohol but most schools have a social centre with a bar. I am not for one minute asking anyone to agree with this but am simply trying to point out that different things shock different cultures. How the parents dealt with it would be the question I would ask. Was he punished? If so, how?
That said, the above is my experience in a professional capacity. If thexonic thought he was doing the decent thing then fair enough. But, as the adult in this thing he should appreciate that the kid would not welcome interferance.
