I see that you are Australian from your profile. In this case the best thing for you to do is contact the hospital where you gave birth to your baby and ask them if they can send you a copy of the birth certificate, or get one of your friends in India to get it from the hospital. Then get the Australian High commission at New Delhi to certify the birth. I guess the Australian High commission will need a copy of the Baby's passport and the mothers passport.

Getting the certificate should not be a problem. It is the legal aspects which you have to work with with the Australian authority. The best advise I can give you is call up the Australian High Commission in New Delhi and ask the the best options.

Nowadays the passport can be held as a valid birth certificate, but getting a certified copy will better, especially since in the GCC region you cannot get people to understand or reason that the passport info is valid, since they are fickle minded and are used to getting what they want.
